Oscar Peterson Tribute Concert:

Canadian jazz pianist John Sherwood is joined by two alumni of the Oscar
Peterson Trio to present some of Oscar’s most brilliant piano trio
arrangements. Bassist Dave Young and drummer Terry Clarke are featured
along with Sherwood in what is to be an unforgettable evening of great
jazz, starting with Peterson’s early years in Montreal when he was first
discovered by Norman Granz, through the MPS and Pablo years where he
played with some of the greatest names in jazz.

ABOUT THE JOHN:

Jazz piano luminary JOHN SHERWOOD is recognized by his audiences, his
critics, and his peers as one of the top jazz pianists in Canada today.
He performed with vibesmaster Peter Appleyard for years, and has also been
featured live or on recordings with Moe Koffman, Guido Basso, Rob
McConnell, Ed Bickert, Jake Hanna, Kenny Wheeler, Butch Miles, and
countless other international stars, past and present.

JOHN’S MASTER CLASS: (Location and Date TBC)

John Sherwood will demonstrate early jazz styles and how they evolved into
the present role of the piano in the jazz music of today, both as a solo
instrument and as in an ensemble. He will demonstrate various harmonic
ideas and explain the creative process through improvisation. This session
will include many demonstrations and a question and answer period.
