The Carlan Pulkkinen Quartet is a collaboration between four young jazz players in Guelph and the surrounding area. Flipping between laid back standards, or creative and free flowing original compositions, the group is versatile and eager to play.
Caleb Khuu (Guitar) has been a member of both the Royal City Big Band and Jazz FM Youth Big Band and has had the opportunity to perform at venues across the GTA including Koerner Hall, Lula Lounge, Hugh’s Room, The Jazz Room and many others.
Josh Collesso (Bass) has been a regular part of the Guelph youth jazz scene playing with local quartet Valet (performing regularly at Manhattans) and the Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble.
Carlan Pulkkinen (Drums) has also been a regular part of Guelph’s youth music scene, gaining experience with Jamschool, the Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble, even playing bass for a local rock band. He currently takes lessons with Ted Warren.
Jakob Durst (Saxophone) has been a member of the Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble, performed regularly with Valet Quartet, and held a chair in the Hamilton All-Star Jazz Band. He’s also had the opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians in the area (including Mike Murley and Kevin Turcotte) at the Interprovincial Music Camp.
