Fernandha Cunha Trio

Brought up in a rich musical environment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, singer Fernanda Cunha has toured Brazil, Europe, and North America, performing at prestigious international jazz festivals. Fernanda made her first Canadian appearance at the Yardbird Suite- Edmonton in 2005 and has been a regular performer in Canada from coast-to-coast-to-coast ever since. Regular appearances at jazz festivals in Canada have helped to carve out a fan base for Cunha’s post-bossa groove, and in 2019 she moved to Ontario, Canada.

Fernanda performs regularly with Toronto jazz guitarist Reg Schwager for more than a decade. Schwager is one of Canada’s most in demand players. He has toured extensively across Canada and worldwide with George Shearing, Diana Krall, Peter Appleyard, Emilie-Claire Barlow, and many others. He appears on over 80 commercially released recordings and is a four-time winner of Canada’s National Jazz Award for Guitarist of the Year. Schwager is a Brazilian music expert, and has taught some workshops about rhythms from Brazil. During the pandemic, Reg wrote some songs and sent to Fernanda to add lyrics in Portuguese. They liked the result and decided to release an album with all originals. Reg produced the album and invited some great musicians to participate such as Tom Szczesniak, Pat Collins, Edson Ghilardi, Michel Lambert, Allison A, and Masashi Usui

“Late night” is now out in all digital stores and will have a physical distribution as well.
