STEVE LUCAS

As a session and touring bassist, Steve Lucas has performed and recorded with artists such as Jim Weider’s Project Percolator, multiple Grammy Award winner Levon Helm, Bruce Cockburn, guitarist Steve Kimock, Juno award winning artist Loreena McKennitt, as well as appearing on television shows such as The David Letterman Show and the Juno Awards.

Steve has also been featured in the New York Times, Bass Frontiers, and Canadian Musician Magazine, in which he was voted one of Canada’s top bass players.Steve has recorded on numerous albums including the soundtrack to the 2010 Academy Award nominated film “Precious”, performing on “Somethin’s Comin’ My Way” by NYC singer/songwriter Dan Manjovi and featuring vocalist Grace Hightower, and Bruce Cockburn’s Juno Award winning “Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu”.

Steve’s CD titled “Gamma Jazz”, which combined jazz with drum ‘n bass, trip hop and jungle has received accolades from around the world. The CD featured Steve Lucas’ bass playing, complicated beat programming and dense chord structures which propelled his ten original jazz-fusion compositions, which also featured blistering guest jazz musicians.

Steve is currently at work on his latest CD which continues the synthesis of jazz technique with modern production styles such as broken beat and dubstep, as well as incorporating film orchestration harmonies learned through studies with famed Hollywood film orchestrator Scott Smalley (Batman, Mission: Impossible) and his recent Master’s degree in music compostion at York University in Toronto, Canada.
