Tom Fleming is a guitarist, composer, improviser, arranger and educator based out of Toronto, Canada. He has performed and/or recorded with such notable artists as Ralph Alessi, David Binney, Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck and Dave Matthews Band), Tim Hagans, Dong-Won Kim (Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble), Hugh Fraser, Robi Botos, Roberto Occhipinti, D’bi Young Anitafrika (‘da Kink in my Hair), Mark Kieswetter, John Johnson, Matt Dusk, Waleed Abdulhamid, Campbell Ryga, Will Kennedy (the Yellowjackets), Kirk MacDonald, Lou Pomanti, Marc Rogers, Wanda Vick Burchfield (Taylor Swift, Trisha Yearwood, Jason Aldean), Paul Franklin (Dire Straits, Peter Frampton, Barbra Streisand), Pat LaBarbera, Tim Ries (Maria Schneider, Maynard Ferguson, Blood Sweat and Tears), Bernard Fowler (Herbie Hancock, James Blood Ulmer), Lisa Fischer (Sting, Luther Vandross, Tina Turner), Darryl Jones (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield) and Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones). Performance highlights include the Tokyo Jazz Festival, the Victoria International Jazz Festival, the Festival International De Jazz Montreal, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Birdland Jazz Club in New York, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Edmonton International Jazz Festival, the Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival and JUNOfest, as well as numerous performances in the United States, Mexico, Japan, the United Kingdom and all across Canada. He is the guitarist for fast-rising Canadian jazz vocalist and songwriter Barbra Lica, appearing on her 2017 Juno-nominated recording, ‘I’m Still Learning’, as well as her most recent album on Justin Time Records, ‘You’re Fine’, which includes a song he co-wrote with Barbra. Tom graduated from the University of Toronto with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Music in Jazz Guitar Performance and is currently working towards completing a Doctorate in Music from that same institution. Tom’s unique style is reflective of the broad spectrum of interests and influences which inform his art.
