Vasily Shugaev was born in St. Petersburg Russia, but was raised and lived most of his life in Richmond Hill, Ontario. He first discovered his love for music with the piano which he played since the age of 6. He realized his calling for jazz when he picked up the alto saxophone in 7th-grade playing with his school band. He immediately fell in love with the elegant and complex patterns present throughout jazz. He has been playing the alto sax ever since, playing everything from cool jazz and funk to bebop and fusion. Vasily now spends much of the time he doesn’t spend studying honing his skills.”
