ABOUT THE SHOW: Celebrating Black History Month – The R&B Jazz Songbook Concert

During February, the TD Niagara Jazz Festival will be celebrating Black History Month with a focus on Black History, Music, and Culture.
Table Rock Restaurant is being transformed into the world’s grandest jazz club for an evening of unparalleled delight — and insight — exploring Black music history. Into a room with an incomparable view overlooking Niagara Falls, that draws energy and inspiration from this natural geologic wonder and river symbolic of Freedom’s Line, arrives Carlos Morgan, a dynamic Soul, R&B, and Jazz singer and music educator who will both inform and entertain.
Carlos Morgan shares his in-depth knowledge on the history and contributions of some of the best Black artists and musicians in Canada. During his presentations for TD Niagara Jazz Festival Black History Month performances in February, including the special Thursday, February 15, 2024 event at Table Rock, Morgan will take audiences through the timelines of some of the best, yet widely unknown Black artists, who have made and continue to make indelible contributions to the Canadian music industry.
“I’m taking classic R&B soul songs and giving them jazz stylings and interpretations, calling it The R&B Jazz Songbook,” said Morgan. The concert will feature original songs by Morgan and songs by Prince, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, The Beatles, and James Ingram to name a few. “As a Black singer, songwriter, and recording artist, born and raised in Canada, I wasn’t educated about the contributions of Black artists and musicians in Canada who were and are an integral part of our cultural identity and have laid the foundation for music in Canada, though they are not widely known,” he stated. “This is why I am passionate about sharing the history of Black music in Canada.”
A 3-course dinner is available to accompany this show, and ‘show only’ tickets are also available. View the menu here: Table Rock 3-course Jazz Menu

“Feeling Alright,” Morgan’s debut album, showcased the diversity of Morgan’s sultry singing style with seductive ballads like “Get Down To It” and “When Two BecomeOne” to the upbeat R&B tracks “Give It To You” and “Baby C’Mon.” Originally recorded as an independent release for DTone Records, it quickly became one of Canada’s hottest-selling independent albums. “Feeling Alright” topped the charts at #3 on “The Records Independent Charts” after two weeks of releasing. Morgan’s sophomore CD, “The Compilation,” released on his own label, Solroc Music, showcases not only Morgan’s vocal diversity but also his maturity as a vocalist, songwriter, and producer. “Feelin’ Alright” went on to garner the JUNO Award for Best R&B /Soul Recording, two-time Canadian Urban Music Award Recipient for Best Male Vocalist and Best R&B /Soul Video, MuchMusic Video Award for Best R&B /Soul Video, SOCAN Music Award, two time Canadian Who’s Who, and Ѐx Caribbean Cultural Committee Award Recipient (New Artist & Songwriter).
