A close look at the way the archtop jazz guitar is made; construction techniques, methods and materials. including a concise look at the evolution of the instrument and its place in jazz music now and in the future from the perspective of a guitar maker.
An archtop guitar is a steel-stringed acoustic or semi-acoustic guitar with a full body and a distinctive arched top, whose sound is particularly popular with jazz players.
Typically, an archtop guitar has:
- 6 strings
- An arched top and back, not flat
- Moveable adjustable bridge
- F-holes similar to members of the violin family
- Rear mounted tailpiece, stoptail bridge or Bigsby tremolo
- 14th-fret neck join
