ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Duo Lab & Band

Duo Lab & Band is a musical project created by Brazilian jazz musicians Rayne Vitorino Dias (piano/accordion) and Carol Blumer (voice/percussion). For the Bossa Nova in the Vines, the group is creating an energetic performance that mixes the Bossa Nova classics from Tom Jobim to João Gilberto, Brazilian Jazz Fusion including Hermeto Pascoal, João Donato and Tania Maria tunes, and a few of Carol and Rayne’s original compositions, in English and Portuguese. The show will bring generous doses of improvisation, scat singing, and a variety of Brazilian rhythms. Get ready to listen and experience Brazilian music. Let’s Bossa!

André Valério

André Valério is a Brazilian-born guitarist, composer, arranger, and educator based in Toronto. A respected figure on Canada’s jazz and world music scenes, he is the guitarist for Tio Chorinho, Canada’s first ensemble dedicated to Brazilian choro, which won the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award for Instrumental Ensemble of the Year. André also leads the Ona Ensemble, a Canadian-Brazilian chamber jazz group known for its innovative cross-cultural collaborations. As a composer and arranger, he has worked with numerous vocalists and ensembles. A passionate educator, André inspires students through his expertise, creativity, and love of music.

Aline Morales

Juno-nominated vocalist, percussionist, and songwriter Aline Morales is a leading force in Canada’s Brazilian music scene. Originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, she blends contemporary Brazilian pop, MPB, Tropicalia, jazz, and global folkloric influences into a distinctive and captivating sound. Since moving to Canada in 2003, Aline has played a pivotal role in promoting Brazilian culture through acclaimed projects including Maracatu Nunca Antes, Baque de Bamba, Kuné, and her solo work. Her debut album Flores, Tambores e Amores topped Canada’s folk/world radio charts, while her performances have graced major festivals and venues across Canada and beyond.

OPENING ACT – Mia Chinni

JAZZ 4 the AGES Youth Winner – 18 to 23 Solo (Guitar)

Mia Chinni started playing guitar at age 7 while growing up in Washington, DC. In 2021, she moved to Michigan to study with renowned guitarist Randy Napoleon, whose fingerstyle approach has greatly influenced her playing. Through opportunities at Michigan State, Mia gained experience performing with musicians such as Rodney Whitaker, Michael Dease, Sean Jones, and Rick Roe. In 2024, Mia arranged and recorded for Astrud and toured with Dan Wilson as a part of MSU’s Jazz Nonets. Mia has performed in a diverse variety of venues, from coffee shops to concert halls, in solo, duo, and larger settings. She currently gigs and teaches around Michigan while finishing her studies.
