Jazz improvisation is that intricate and passionate form of jazz where spontaneity and creative conviction collide, with an almost intuitive sophistication. LaBarbera is the master of this dynamic jazz form.

At Friday’s clinic he will share his almost encyclopedic knowledge of improvisational theory, as well as his reminiscences from a long and colourful career.

Pat LaBarbera is a multi-talented jazz tenor, alto and soprano saxophonist, clarinetist and flautist. He has played with many of the great musical icons of our time, from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie, to The Supremes, The Temptations, and Stevie Wonder. For seven years he toured and recorded has toured and recorded as featured tenor saxophone soloist with the Buddy Rich Band. His music has taken him around the globe, but for more than thirty years he has called Ontario home, and now teaches with the Faculty of Music at Humber College.
