Blue Note and Beyond” is a captivating piano show featuring renowned jazz pianist Bernie Senensky, celebrating the rich legacy of the iconic Blue Note Records label and beyond. JAZZ 4 the AGES Youth Performer Elise Bernard performs the music of jazz musician and TikTok sensation Laufey
Fourteen-year-old Elise has always loved to sing. In the Spring of 2023, she started vocal lessons with Tenja Hagenberg (Performance on Point ) and is devoted to singing in her many fundraisers. Elise was a 2023 Finalist in the Niagara Jazz Festival’s JAZZ 4 the AGES competition and a winner in her age category in 2024.

ABOUT THE BAND
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1944, Bernie Senensky has been a stalwart member of the Canadian and international jazz scene for over 50 years. He has toured with a multitude of his own ensembles over the years and has played with a diverse array of jazz artists from Chet Baker to Moe Koffman to Elvin Jones to Pharoah Saunders (to name but a few). Bernie continues to play and tour extensively. His consummate melodicism together with his unparalleled improvisational approach has ensconced him as a lynchpin of the current jazz scene.

Three-time Juno nominee twice voted “Best Acoustic Pianist” in the Jazz Report awards and winner of a SOCAN award for “Best Jazz Composition”, Bernie Senensky has earned the reputation of being one of Canada’s premier jazz artists, with 13 recordings under his own name. His playing has been featured internationally in many concerts & festivals.
Bernie began occupying the piano chair in The Moe Koffman Quintet in 1979 when the band was the number one small jazz combo in Canada. The list of artists that he has performed with reads like a “who’s who” of jazz, including: Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Joe Williams, Rashied Ali, Eric Alexander, Phil Woods, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ravi Coltrane, Blue Mitchell, Pharoh Sanders, Dave Liebman, Art Blakey, James Moody, Mark Murphy, Donald Byrd, Elvin Jones (who called Bernie “one of the finest pianists I have ever played with in my career”), Art Farmer, George Coleman, Joe Farnsworth, Buddy DeFranco (who called Bernie “the best of the best”), Clark Terry, Sonny Stitt, Red Rodney, Barney Kessel, Art Pepper, Terry Gibbs, Chris Potter, Pepper Adams & Zoot Sims
