CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH 

During February, TD Niagara Jazz Festival will be celebrating Black History Month with a focus on Black History, Music, and Culture.  Speaker Carlos Morgan will open the show.
Carlos Morgan shares his in-depth knowledge on the history and contributions of some of the best Black artists and musicians in Canada. During his presentations for TD Niagara Jazz Festival’s Black History Month performances, he will take audiences through the timelines of some of the best, yet widely unknown Black artists, who have made and continue to make indelible contributions to the Canadian music industry. Read more…

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Harrison Kennedy is a Canadian electric blues, R&B and soul blues singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for being the lead vocalist on the Chairmen of the Board song, “Chairman of the Board”, and has had a varied solo career since the mid-1970s. He was awarded the 2016 “Blues Album of the Year” Juno Award for his release, This Is From Here. It was Kennedy’s sixth nomination for that Award. He is also a Blues Music Award, and multiple Maple Blues Award nominee.

Harrison grew up in a house filled with music and famous visitors such as Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, and Lonnie Johnson. In 1969 he took a hiatus from college to become a founding member of the million selling Detroit Soul Super Group “The Chairmen of the Board” with whom he toured the world, as well as appearing on Soul Train, American Bandstand, and the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

HARRISON KENNEDY in 1968 joined the Detroit POP GROUP “The Chairmen of the Board.” and played all the top venues including JOHNNY CARSON’S TONIGHT SHOW, SOUL TRAIN, AMERICAN BANDSTAND, and ENGLAND’S “TOP-OF-THE-POPS’, doing their hit, “Gimme Me Just A Little More Time.”

C.O.T.B. had performances with B.B. KING, JAMES BROWN, SMOKEY ROBINSON, STEVIE WONDER, FUNKADELICS and more. C.O.T.B. also performed many times at New York’s Famous HARLEM’S APOLLO THEATRE.
