ABOUT THE SHOW:

Get ready for a high-energy performance featuring Cuban-born trumpeter Alexis Baro.  Alexis and his quartet will feature a multi- dimensional repertoire including music from his new release, a tribute to the Cuban Trumpet call "Mi Raiz" (My Root)  
Presented by the TD Niagara Jazz Festival in partnership with the Hare Wine Co and co-sponsored by DPLU Music.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Alexis Baro on Trumpet

Alexis Baro was born into a musical family in Havana, Cuba. Classically trained, he took up the trumpet at the age of age 8 and completed his musical education receiving a teaching certification at the prestigious Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory in Havana. While in school he became a member of Buena Vista Social Club superstar singer Omara Portuondo’s band and at the age of 19 played lead trumpet for the National Radio and Television Orchestra. After moving to Canada in 2001 he was discovered in Toronto by iconic Canadian jazz drummer Archie Alleyne where he flourished as a writer and performer for eight years as a member of the Canadian award-winning & “hard-bop” band Kollage. Yoser Rodriguez on Bass
One of the premier bass players of Toronto’s burgeoning Latin and world music scenes, Cuban- Canadian musician Yoser Rodriguez has recently made the transition from in-demand bassist to singer/songwriter with the launch of his original project, the Yoser Rodriguez Trio. Originally trained as a classical guitarist at the renowned Guillermo Tomas Institute in Havana, Yoser studied bass with Carlos del Puerto and toured Cuba with Fiebre Latina before moving to Toronto in 2003. Amhed Mitchel on Drums
Amhed Mitchel is a Cuban-Canadian drummer who calls Toronto home since 2006. As a session musician Mitchel has collaborated with a vast number of artists. In 2004 Amhed was part of the closing concert of the Tokyo Jazz Festival where he shared stage with such musical icons like the great Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Dianne Reeves and Leonel Loueke . Jeremy Ledbetter on Piano

An engaging and fiery performer whose music knows no boundaries, Canadian pianist Jeremy Ledbetter has made a career from travelling the far-flung corners of the globe in search of the most fascinating and unique musical ideas out there, then seamlessly integrating them into his work as a pianist, composer, and producer. out there, then seamlessly integrating them into his
