A mix of old classics and new original tunes. Juno Nominees Alex Bird & the Jazz Mavericks are on a mission of opening up a brand new chapter of the Great American Songbook, and taking that spirit and music to modern audiences.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Alex Bird on Vocals
Alex Bird & The Jazz Mavericks have taken centre stage on the Canadian Jazz scene. Alongside songwriting and piano partner, Ewen Farncombe, Bird is creating timeless and heartfelt originals for a modern audience. This talented team has spent the past four years producing something that is completely unique, three original albums in three years. 2022 brought JUNO nominations, reviews from around the world, and even the crafting of “Canada’s Thanksgiving Anthem” The Sweetest Moments, which was broadcast across the country with a national ad campaign & interviews on CBC, CityTV, and many other news outlets. Julian Anderson-Bowes on Bass
“Julian Anderson-Bowes is an acoustic and electric bassist and composer who grew up in Toronto. He collaborates and performs with artists across a range of musical styles from traditional jazz, to experimental pop, and sometimes I even make music for dance. Currently, he is focused on developing music for a new group he is leading called Moonbliss. Some other local musicians he works with in an ongoing way include Tara Kannangara, Jesse Ryan, James Hill, Sam Dickinson, Kira May, Sabine Ndalamba, Matthew Tavares, Liam Mitro, Sean Clarey, Alex Bird, and Steven Taetz.” View Artist.
Ewen Farncombe on Piano
“Ewen Farncombe is a Juno-nominated pianist and composer based out of Toronto and has been a professional on the scene there for nearly a decade. Having played on various recordings and with numerous bands, he has earned his reputation as a highly skilled musician. While he was attending Humber College for a degree in music performance, he received several prestigious awards, including the Hnatyshyn Foundation Oscar Peterson award. While jazz is Ewen’s passion, he is a versatile player and is known to play many genres of music.” Visit artist.
Jacob Gorzhaltsan on Sax/Clarinet

Jacob Gorzhaltsan is a Juno-nominated multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Toronto, Ontario.Β  Born in Jerusalem, Israel, to parents who are both visual artists, Jacob moved to Canada at a young age afterwards. Early on in his musical pursuits, Jacob was fortunate to attend a workshop and play with his clarinet-hero, Buddy DeFranco — a moment that continues to inspire his passion to this day.and began studying music shortly afterwards.
