HISTORY:
Pianist, composer and bandleader Gord Sheard has been a prominent figure on the Canadian music scene for over thirty years. His most recent project, the Gord Sheard Quintet, combines his depth of experience in jazz and rhythm & blues with a life-long engagement with the music of Brazil and of Bahia in particular, a region steeped in Afro-Brazilian musical traditions. Out of this comes the Gord Sheard Quintet’s repertoire – a unique and dynamic blend of Northeastern Brazilian melody and rhythm and jazz spontaneity. The quintet has performed at the Toronto International Jazz and Uma Nota Festivals, among several other appearances.
