ORI DAGAN
Winner of Best Male Vocalist in NOW Magazine’s 2013 Readers Poll, Ori Dagan dabbled in classical piano, creative writing and musical theatre before discovering jazz in his late teens. He studied classical voice and jazz vocals at York University (BFA 2007) and performance, songwriting and improvisation at Humber College. Dagan’s critically acclaimed recording debut, S’Cat Got My Tongue, established him as a musical adventurer; he was named Canada’s Next Top Crooner by CBC in 2010. His sophomore CD Less Than Three (<3) re-imagines Elton John, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and features his original love song to the search engine, “Googleable.”
MARK KIESWETTER
Versatile Pianist, Mark Kieswetter, has performed alongside jazz greats including Zoot Sims, Jack Sheldon and James Moody. For over three years, he was the musical director for the legendary Jon Hendricks, working with him in developing the large vocal ensemble “Vocalstraâ”, and performing at many venues including the International Association of Jazz Educators in New York and the Sorbonne in Paris. He has played in the orchestra for many professional touring companies, and has performed on numerous CDs, including Juno nominated “The Beat Goes On” (Emilie-Claire Barlow ) and “Bread and Buddha” (Harry Manx), and his duo CD “Green Edge Sky, Green Edge Sun” with Toronto bassist Ross MacIntyre.
ALEX BELLEGARDE
Composer, master of improv and Grand Jazz Award winner at the Montreal Jazz Festival, 26th ed, Alex Bellegarde creates music drawn from a wealth of sources. With several albums to his credit, he heads a number of groups and participates in a range of projects in jazz, Latin music and theatre. A well known figure on the Montreal jazz scene, he hosts a ‘killer’ weekly jam session that draws promising talents and renowned jazz musicians from near and afar.
A much sought-after Latin bassist when local Cuban players or latin stars from out of town need the right sound, he has played at special events with legendary artists from the US and Cuba : Candido Camero, Viti Ruiz, Maelo Ruiz, Edwin Bonilla, Chiquitin and Caridad Cruz.
HISTORY:
Ori Dagan is one of Toronto’s busiest jazz musicians. He has perfomed at virtually every jazz venue in this city including Jazz Bistro, the Old Mill, the Rex, Poetry Jazz Cafe, Upstairs Jazz in Montreal and the Brookstreet Hotel in Ottawa. Festival highlights include Canadian Music Week, Toronto Jazz Festival, All Canadian Jazz Festival in Port Hope and the Ottawa Jazz Festival to name a few.
